First Blog Birthday!

Yesterday was my first Birthday of having this blog! It has very suddenly crept up on me - can't believe that it's been a year already! I just wanted to say, thank you so much to anyone who has ever even briefly looked at my blog, it really means so much. And a massive thank you to all those who have ever commented, got in touch via twitter for a chat or given me any feedback during this year. I have loved having a blog, it's made me so much more productive, creative and led me to lots of other lovely creative people who I otherwise might not have met, so THANK YOU!xxx

Ode to Amy

I was so sad to hear about Amy Winehouse's death this weekend. 'Frank' and 'Back to Black' are amongst some of my favourite albums ever, I never tire of hearing them. My favourite song of hers was 'Tears Dry On Their Own'. Here's a couple of patterns I did today inspired by that song.

Melanie Chadwick

Have been a little bit poorly the last week or so, but the one thing that cheered me right up was winning this gorgeous print from Melanie Chadwick's blog giveaway! I have followed Melanie's work for a little while now, and I just love her style, I really love the lines and quirkiness in her illustrations. I love the print so much, have been fawning over lots of her gorgeous prints in her online shop for a quite a while, so was thrilled to win! I'm having a baby in October, and just starting to get things ready for the baby's bedroom (once we move in 2 weeks - eek!), and I think this will be just perfect as the first thing to adorn the wall. We've left it a surprise as to what sex the baby is, ad I love that this print isn't gender specific, it's amazing how much is really - it's like everything baby related is either pink or blue! Crazy!

The Secret Garden

Today's pattern inspired by the childrens book 'The Secret Garden' by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Really can't decide on the shade of green in the background or the scale, what do you think? Have a lovely weekend!

Thursday Floral

A pattern I designed a few months ago but couldn't really ever get to a stage I liked - thought I'd post it anyway, as working on a few things at the moment which I can't show just yet. Hope everyone's having a good week :)

Hels Writes

A blog and twitter background pattern design for journalist (and LionHeart Magazine creator) Helen Martin. I've followed Helen's blog for quite a while now, and I just love it, she writes so beautifully and honestly, and I just love the whole ethos to her writing. I always come away feeling inspired, thoughtful and generally uplifted. Not being a writer I feel I can't really describe very well how great this blog is, so all I'll say is, you should definitely take a look!

Anyway, suffice to say I was pretty excited to be designing for her blog, here are the final patterns, I'm pretty pleased with them.

Fun at the Fling!

Have had the most lovely weekend, yesterday daytime I ran childrens workshop at Chelmsford Museum making stuffed owls and felt flowers, (all the children and staff were very lovely). Then straight after I went on the The Fling - Chelmsford's very own festival of assorted amusements. I met lots of other like minded people and other local creatives. It's so nice to know that there is actually a market for that type of event in Chelmsford - here are just a few of the things we tried..........

Claynation - modelling clay with the Hive Artists, lovely to meet some of the artists there, here's my sister Alie modeling her owl:

And my erm, patterny thing :-)

It makes Chelmsford look so beautiful, colourful and exciting, it's like it comes to life for the festival.

At the emotional baggage - I sat at the emotional cripples parking bay for a little while!

We made stuffed animals at the Make Do and Mend tent - Ian perfects his sewing on his rocket! (I made a brown flowery moomin!)

Alie and Katie's animals, very proud!

Ok, really not an attractive picture of me + bump! but this is for Cherry Ann Hall - I sat and was drawn by Ian in her Essex Girl chair! And what a lovely chair it was! Shame I can't say the same for Ian's drawing!!
Wish I'd taken more photos really, as there were so many quirky fun things there, late in the evening there was a beautiful fire garden. Can't wait for next year!
