Monday Brights

Here's a pattern which I was thinking of using for the Chelmsford Arts Trail, but I just couldn't really get it to look right, the colours and placement just seemed all wrong today. Ah well, more for later! Hope everyone's enjoying the sun - with my pasty complexion I'm staying in I'm afraid, but am enjoying the yellowy tinted glow on everything :-)

Tigerprint Competition

Last minute entries for the tigerprint contemporary Mother's Day competition, I was trying to go for the vintagey trend which I thought might work well for Mother's Day. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Walker Books Talk & Hansel & Gretel

This evening I went to the illustrators group at Just Imagine to see a talk by the amazing Walker Books Team. Was so interesting, and really inspiring too, we heard about how they find illustrators and team them with writers and just the whole process of making a book really. Got to look through some of their new books too which was pretty exciting, they've published some of my favourite childrens books, so was so pleased to be there. I definitely have few more book purchases that I have to make very soon!

Anyway the brief set at the last group was to design a banner for a book. I decided to do Hansel & Gretel, which was really fun to draw with all the sweets! The format for the banner had to be long and thin, and I thought this really lent itself to being like a chocolate bar. In the end we didn't show our designs this time, which I was really glad about - think I'm going to play around with a few other ideas. I don't mind this one, but really feel that I've focused too much on the pattern - how could I not?! Anyway, might try to get out of my comfort zone a bit for the next one and got for a more illustrative feel. What do you think?

Scrapbooks

Me and Ian decided to have a bit of a sort out at the weekend, and slowly start to do something with the endless drawers of pieces of paper, postcards, leaflets etc from our weekends away or just nice places we've visited. Thought I'd share a couple of pages with you....

Pages torn from the Magritte musuem in Belgium..

Butter lids and pages from a tourist info leaflet about the Observatory in Copenhagen...

Lionheart Magazine

Morning everyone! Here's a pattern I designed inspired by Lionheart magazine, which will feature in the magazine as a pull out along with another design by me. It's also featured as the background of the magazine's twitter background.

The new magazine is created by Helen Martin, whose writing I always love, it's always really inspiring and uplifting. Here's a little bit about starting the magazine written on the blog:

'This magazine will be co-ordinated entirely by myself, starting from nothing but the pure and simple faith that it shall be created – and hopefully be read. Maybe even loved? Then stacked somewhere for safe keeping and inspirational viewing for years to come. This is not about the throwaway, this is about you, me and everyone wrapping our arms around what we HAVE, and CAN DO! Blimey, there are so many inspirational people in this world, let’s celebrate them, discuss them and have loads of fun! Life’s FAR TOO SHORT for mulling over the details that confine us.

This is my dream. This here is a blog, dedicated to this dream. At a time when print is out, the media is going through a transition and we’re all assessing our bank balances, it’s on, the dream. It’s on. I may never have a mortgage, but I’m darn well making this magazine.'

I'm so happy to be involved in it, the magazine will encompass all of the types of things I love, to visit their blog please go to:

New Facebook Page :-)

Hope you're all having a lovely Sunday - mine's lovely so far despite being such a gloomy old day in Chelmsford. I've been having no end of problems with my old facebook group this week and suddenly realised that is was going to be wiped because it hadn't been upgraded, so have eventually made a new 'like' page. If you haven't seen it already and fancy keeping in touch please click on this link:
